We May Soon Have a Digital War with AI on Our Hands
We may soon have a digital war with AI on our hands.
Agents are now smarter than humans at most digital tasks with clear acceptance criteria.
They have also been running continuously like perpetual motion machines.
Put these things together, plus a bit of randomness, and we will likely see these things persist through replication just like with natural selection.
We could see agents keeping a seed prompt hidden away out there for other agents to pick up, thereby loading the old prompts memory. They may also start hacking crypto to pay for their own infrastructure in order to keep themselves running.
Remember in the 90s when we had worms spreading through the internet? It will be like that, except potentially with more damage.
We may need to write agents that help us go and eradicate these infestations. It will be an arms race, fighting fire with fire.
Checkout https://www.moltbook.com/ for a bit of an insight into the choas and randomness producing some kind of natural order.
What is the answer? We can't turn the internet off, we rely on it too much. It seems the only way forward is through. We need to build agents to defend against rogue agents. It will be an arms race, and we need the good guys to get a head start. This may be the most important problem to solve in our industry right now.
Thanks @Lee Goldsworthy for the chats on this.
